Decentralized Rural
Electrification
Goals
Decentralised rural electrification (DRE) aims at supplying electricity
to communities located in areas unaccessible to the electrical networks.
The systems have to be adapted to the diverse types of needs of the population
they are provided to as well as to site-specific conditions. In the case
of scattered villages with dispersed households, DRE is carried out using
stand-alone photovoltaic generators. In the case of concentrated communities
and for power applications electricity is provided by solar, wind, hydro
or hybrid power plants coupled to micro-grids.
