European cooperation
The European Commission plays a great role in promoting the development of renewable energy technologies for the well being of human society. For years, several initiatives have been undertaken, including greenhouse gases emissions reduction and improvement of the long-term energy supply security, A lot of progress have already been observed with majors milestones such as the Green Paper in 1996 followed in 1997 by a White Paper and an action Plan for a Community strategy on renewable energy sources. This paper contains a comprehensive set of measures to attain the objective of 12% for the contribution of renewable sources to the EU energy consumption by the year 2010. At the end of 1998 the EU Parliament took a spectacular initiative in favour of Renewable Energy Technologies by assigning an important RD budget inside the 5th and 6th Framework Programme to the renewable energy sector. Transenergie has been involved for many years in the development of the main EC initiatives in the field of RES, in co-operation with the most advanced European players. ![]() |
