Stand-alone systems
The photovoltaic (PV) modules directly convert solar irradiation into
DC current. The energy output is variable according to the level of irradiation.
A battery stores the energy produced for allowing it to be available on
demand, at night, or during cloudy periods for instance. The use of an
inverter offers the possibility of connecting common AC appliances. A
generator, for punctual power needs or additional battery charging, can
also back up such PV systems.
